Howard and Jody Futterman have been in business less than two years, but their unique, tasty nut butters already have a great niche. This is way beyond Jif or Skippy.

The Futterman family, which also includes daughter Brittany, makes a personal commitment to the quality of their products and purchases nuts and seeds directly from small farmers whenever possible. They are also passionate about the fact that their products are very nutritious. The nut butters are high in protein, soluble fiber, vitamin E, copper, potassium, B vitamins, and many more beneficial things. They are also low in saturated fats and in net carbswhich might interest a lot of people these daysand contain no preservatives, oils, or additives.

Futters Nut Butters are available in any nut you favor: almond, cashew, brazil, and macadamia, to name a few. Pumpkin and sunflower seed spreads are also in the repertoire, as well as such flavor combos as cherry almond, orange cashew, and chocolate cherry almond hazelnut.

Why is producing organic food a priority for your family?
The most natural way our product is supposed to be grown, then eaten for the best taste and benefit of the food itself. We want the nut butters to be the purest and healthiest they can be. We want what was50 years or so ago before all the GMOs and pesticidesand what is supposed to be.

What is your favorite part of being an organic processor?
The call to the roots purist feeling. Despite our modern technologies and progressand complications those things sometimes effectour basic, wholesome product is superior in its simplicity.

Why should people buy organic products instead of other options?
With all the good intentions for feeding the masses and protecting the crops, the issues of safety, health, and taste got diluted. Our children deserve clean, free of toxins, tasteful, natures intended food. Its their given right. Our very basic core of life is otherwise threatened. The uncertainty of adulterating is not worth the risk.

What makes your business and products special?
We gently process our nuts into nut butters. We try to maintain everything special about the raw product. The ground nuts should stand up in freshness and taste on their own without adding preservatives, sugars, salts, etc.

Where can consumers get your products?
Locally, they are available at a number of retailers, including Chicagoland Whole Foods Markets, Sunset Foods, and Sherwyns Health Foods. We are also at area farmers markets in Deerfield, Palatine, and Schaumburg. A wider list of retailers is available on our website, and you can order our products there, too.
