Before you throw out those old clothes that you no longer wear or that you no longer fit into, consider donating them. There are several national organizations that accept clothing as long as there is little wear and tear. These organizations either sell the clothes at a reduced price, or they give the clothing to people who need it. Families that organizations help include those who have lost jobs or who have nothing due to fires and natural disasters. You can also call local churches. Many churches have a clothing closet where members of the church or community can get the items they need. Another idea is to give children’s clothing to a local school. There might be students who do not have a lot to wear, and this would be a blessing to the child. Most organizations that you donate to will give you a receipt so that you can deduct the amount on your income tax return.
